Varanasi

The holy city of Varanasi, which is also known by other names like Banaras and Kashi, is said to be one of the oldest living cities in the world. The city’s rich history and culture has even attracted the attention of a well-known American writer, Mark Twain, who once remarked, “Banaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together”.
Said to be the abode of lord Shiva and Parvati, a bath in river Ganges in Varanasi is believed to wash away the sins of the human beings. The city is also called the cultural capital of India, as it has been promoting mysticism, spiritualism, Sanskrit, Yoga, dance and music. Used to hosting a great number of people year round, Varanasi has adequately developed its infrastructure which is fit enough for MICE events of any level.
The activities which visitors can indulge in post events include learning first hand lessons in spirituality, mysticism and listening to the folklores on Hindu religion and tradition narrated by pundits.
The city enjoys great connectivity with other cities of its state and the country by air, rail and road. Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport is the nearest airport to Varanasi, about 19 kilometres away from the city centre. It enjoys connectivity with Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow. Varanasi has its own railway station which connects it to other major cities of the country. Buses ply regularly between Delhi and other cities of Uttar Pradesh to Varanasi.
