Not far away from the capital Shimla, about 16 kilometres, Kufri sits with its nature parks and other picnic spots at an altitude of 8,630 ft. It is known for its trekking and hiking trails and in winters for skiing and sledding when its slopes are covered in snow. It is said to be once part of the Kingdom of Nepal before coming under British rule.
Kufri being nearer to the capital Shimla makes it easily accessible to other parts both of its own state and outside through air, road and train. The nearest airport is in Shimla and Shimla Railway Station is the nearest railway station. Buses and cabs from Shimla and other parts of the country such as Chandigarh and Delhi operate regularly to and from Kufri.
