Kumarakom

Nestled on the Vembanad Lake – the largest lake in Kerala – is a group of small islands which together constitute the Kumarakom village. Kumarakom is a captivating backwater destination with a wide variety of flora and fauna. Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary in the village is called birdwatcher’s paradise spread across 14 acres. It is home to different varieties of birds such as Herons, Darters, Egrets, Cukoo, migratory birds, and others.
The Vembanad Lake, which is the longest lake in India, has on the surface beautiful houseboats and diverse aquatic life underneath. Post events, delegates can explore the islands particularly Pathiramanal island which is home to a wide range of migratory birds. The other places of interest include Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls, sacred places including temples visited by pilgrims, Backwaters, etc.

Taxis are available at the airport to reach Komarakom. Kottayam railway station is the nearest railway station situated at a distance of about 13 kilometres away from Komarakom. Long distance trains connect the city with other major cities of the country such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and others. Kerala SRTC and private buses operate regularly to and from nearby cities of the state and that of other major cities in southern India such as Bengaluru and Chennai.
